Somber Ancient Dragon Stones Locations: Where To Find

Elden Ring is one of the most hyped games of 2022 to the point where it was granted the award for “The Most Anticipated Game”. It is an action role-playing game with an interesting premise and unique gameplay when compared to other games of the same premise.

In-game players can collect materials and forge weapons which they can then use to fight stronger bosses as the game’s storyline progresses. One of such materials is the ‘Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone’ spread across the map. As their name implies these stones can strengthen equipment, particularly special grade weapons to +10. In total there are 8 Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones, and in this guide, we will tell you the locations of all these stones.

Somber Ancient Dragon Stones: Locations

Following are the locations of all the Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones available in the game:

1. Mohgwyn Palace

After you complete the ‘White Varre Quest’, you will receive the Pure Blood Knight Medal. This will immediately allow you to teleport to the Mohgwyn Palace. Once you get there, you must follow the path past the exploding zombies and enter the ‘Cave of Doom’. Strong enemies spawn there so do be careful.

Upon exiting the cave, remember to touch grace, so you do not die to the assassins. After that, you go kill the enemies or sneak past them to get to the chest in front of the giant statue. Upon opening the chest, you will find a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

2. Crumbling Farum Azula

As the final dungeon, Crumbling Farum Azula is considered one of the most difficult and tricky dungeons in Elden Ring. After you get to the dungeon, you will encounter an ancient dragon that you can either kill or run away from but killing it will award you with an ‘Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone’.

Tread down the path and kill the ‘Godskin Duo’ which will allow you to go further. Southeast of the Temple Rooftop site of grace, you will find the Farum Azula Dragon stationed in the rear of the plaza and behind him, you can find another stone in a chest on the gazebo.

3. Latenna’s Quest

One more Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone can be acquired by completing Latenna’s quest line. Latenna can be found on the other end of the Lakeside Crystal Cave which is South of Lurnia Lakes. After defeating the Bloodhound Knight, you can exit the cave and meet Latenna where the quest begins.

After completing the tasks in the quest, you have to go to the Apostate Derelict in the Consecrated Snowfield where upon summoning Latenna in front of Phillia, Towering Little Sister, you will be rewarded with a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

4. Anastasia, The Tarnished Eater

Anastasia, The Tarnished Eater is an invader that you can encounter at 3 locations and by slaying her all three times you will be rewarded with a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. One of those locations is the Smoldering Church west of Caelid, another is Corpse-Stench Shack near Mt. Gelmir and the final spot is the Consecrated Snowfield.

Although Anastasia does not have a very high health bar or many special abilities, the weapon she carries can easily one-shot you so do be careful whilst battling her.

5. Millicent’s Quest

In a shack near Selia, Town of Sorcery you will find Gowry. He will deliver to you a quest to find the Unalloyed Gold Needle. You can obtain this item by defeating Commander O’Neil who resides in the Swamp of Aeonia. By bringing back the needle to Gowry, he will fix it and give it to you to administer to Millicent.

Millicent can be found in Caelid, inside the Church of Plague, rotting away. Once you interact with her, she will take the needle and use it thereby curing her. After this, a series of many tasks must be completed before Millicent’s quest is complete but do note that this is the most arduous way of getting the stone so you will need to prepare extensively.

6. Ephael, Base of The Haligtree

Another Somber stone can be found in Ephael. You will need to locate the Avatar Tree Spirit whom you can either kill or simply run past to get to the stone since it is located behind it along the path, on a corpse. You get the stone just by interacting with the corpse, but the Tree Spirit would still be chasing you, so caution is advised.

This is perhaps the best place to get the Somber stone since there are two located here. One more Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing stone can be found in a secret room inside of a chest. This is even easier to get to than the corpse.

7. Leyndell, Ashen Capital

In order to get to Leyndell, you will need to defeat Maliketh, The Black Blade in the Crumbling Farum Azula, after which you will be transported to the Ashen Capital.

The stone is in an inconspicuous location there. If you go towards the broken wall and then climb the ladder, you can witness a Gargoyle patrolling about. You must sneak past the Gargoyle and find the final stone which will be on a normal black rock but it will have its signature glow so players can spot it easily.
