After years of anticipation, ‘Call of Duty: Warzone' has finally arrived on mobile devices, with iOS users particularly impressed by its visuals.
The standout feature is the new Peak graphics setting, which enhances the game's visuals significantly. However, the big question remains: can your phone handle it?
Which devices can handle Peak graphics in COD: Warzone mobile?
Currently, only the latest iPhone 15 Pro models can run Warzone with Peak graphics and an ‘Uncapped' frame rate.
Additionally, the newest iPads are capable of handling this setting. Any iPad or iPhone with Apple's A17 Bionic Pro chip or M1 (or newer) can also utilize the Peak graphics setting.
How about Android?
However, Android users are currently unable to experience the Peak graphics setting. Testing on the OnePlus 11R with its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip revealed that only ‘High' settings are available, with ‘Min' and ‘Low' options seemingly restricted to entry-level devices.
Even at the ‘High' setting, graphics on Android flagships like the Galaxy S24 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) appear lower in resolution compared to newer iPhones. The visuals on the iPhone 14 Pro/15 Pro are still unmatched at this level.
Midrange Android phones like the Nothing Phone 2a (Dimensity 7200 Pro) can only achieve ‘Mid' settings, although setting the framerate to uncapped can result in smoother gameplay on this device.
The disparity in graphics performance between iOS and Android devices can be attributed to the diversity of Android hardware.
Unlike Apple, which maintains tight control over its hardware, Android devices utilize chips from various manufacturers, including Qualcomm, Samsung, and MediaTek. This diversity poses a significant challenge for optimization.
What makes Peak different from ‘High'?
Peak graphics elevate the game's visual quality, offering a clear 2K resolution, enhanced textures, and improved draw distance. These enhancements are especially noticeable during aerial gameplay, and shadows become more detailed, adding to the immersive experience.
According to Activision's details on the App Store, players will notice significant visual improvements on the Verdansk map. The draw distance has been enhanced, making distant objects clearer.
Foliage is more detailed, with generic flowers now resembling dandelions. Reflection mapping and ambient occlusion have also been implemented to enhance the realism of locations like Dams and Airports.
Will Peak become available on additional devices?
The good news is that Activision appears to be considering bringing the Peak graphics setting to Android devices in the future.
While currently locked, the option is still displayed, hinting at the possibility of future updates unlocking top-tier visuals for the latest Android hardware. Activision would be wise not to overlook this substantial portion of the mobile market.
What do we think?
While Peak graphics are currently exclusive to select iOS devices, there is hope that Android users will soon be able to enjoy this enhanced visual experience.
As Warzone Mobile continues to evolve, with optimized assets being downloaded in the background, the game's visuals may improve over time, offering a better experience for players on both platforms.
