GTA V Save Game Location Guide

A fifth installment in the GTA series is Grand Theft Auto 5. Fans waited 5 years after GTA IV’s release in 2008 before it finally came out on 17 September 2013.

GTA V Save Game Location

As an action-adventure game, the game fits into that genre. Gameplay is supported by both first-person and third-person perspectives, and multiplayer is also available. 

Three criminal characters can be controlled or switched between by players. Following a robbery gone wrong, it follows an investigation. In an open-world setting set in San Andreas, you have to complete missions and fight rivals.

Where is GTA V Save Game Location?

Your saved games folder is located in a different location according to the version of Windows you are using.

GTA 5 save games can be found here:

  • C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\Documents\My Games
  • C:\ProgramData\Socialclub\<YourName>\<YourNumber>
  • C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles

Note: Open the task manager by clicking ALT+TAB while it is running. You can access Details by right-clicking the exe. You can also select “show folder location”.

Note: The hidden folders in Windows sometimes need to be shown. In order to do that;

  • From the taskbar, you can access File Explorer.
  • Choose view. Click on Options. Adjust folder and search preferences.
  • Click on the View tab. Select the Show hidden files option in Advanced settings. Click the OK button.

Mods Folder

Steam

The GTA 5 mods folder should reside in the following directory if you have downloaded GTA V via Steam:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V

A mods folder needs to be made if you haven’t done so already. Grand Theft Auto doesn’t automatically create the folder.

Rockstar Games

You should have your mods folder here when you install GTA on Rockstar Games’ Steam platform:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

A mods folder needs to be made if you haven’t done so already. Grand Theft Auto doesn’t automatically create the folder.

If the above path is not present, you’ll need to find the location of your Grand Theft Auto installation. Make a folder called mods here.

Scripts Folder

Steam

In the Steam installation of Grand Theft Auto, the scripts folder should be created or already exists at the following path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V

A scripts folder must be created in this folder if you have not already done so.

Rockstar Games

You should have your scripts directory here if you don’t have a Steam Rockstar Games installation:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

A scripts folder must be created in this folder if you have not already done so.

If the above path is not present, you’ll need to find the location of your Grand Theft Auto installation. The scripts folder should be created here.
